New Meal Cards for 2008 Workshop Participants

Centrum is pleased to announce that our Fort Worden partner Bon Appétit will be providing food service for our upcoming 2008 Summer workshops. Bon Appétit specializes in authentic, fresh, local, organic and sustainable offerings that include vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices.

Dining experiences at past workshops included a meal ticket that would be either punched or counted at the door.  Beginning in 2008 Bon Appétit is providing swipeable meal cards. For those who have purchased a meal plan, these cards will be available at check-in inside registration packets that include name badges and program materials.  Programmed according to the meal package purchased, they will either hold dollar amounts for three meals a day, or lunch and dinner only.  If an attendee has registered for lunch and dinner only during a workshop, the card will only work at lunch and dinner services.  Cardholders are free to use their meal card for more than one breakfast, lunch or dinner per day during the week, keeping in mind that it is programmed for a limited amount of prepaid meals. These cards will also serve as a discount card toward any purchase at Bon Appétit's Local Goods Café and Cable House Canteen during your stay.

Individual breakfasts, lunches and dinners can always be purchased separately by program attendees and their guests any time there is meal service offered. Local Goods Café in the Commons remains open throughout the day, serving espresso, baked goods, deli items, wine and beer. For more information about Bon Appétit visit www.cafebonappetit.com/fortworden.

Centrum's Facebook Page

Centrum Facebook PageWhether you are a workshop participant, performance attendee, donor, volunteer, resident, or interested observer, we hope you will take a moment to visit our new Facebook page.

Facebook allows each of you to connect with us and extend your experience at Centrum. Upload your photos and videos. Talk about your past or upcoming workshops, review performances and readings. In large measure, 'our' page is 'your' page.

So take a look, and let us know what you think. We're exploring whether or not to create specific social networking sites for each of our major program areas. What do you think? (Now you have your first discussion topic on Facebook.)

WANTED: Bloggers

When we redesigned this site last year, we had a vision that at some point, we could invite community members to post/write for the site, sharing their passion with other members of the Centrum community.

That time is NOW!

If you are passionate about Centrum programs, and would like to share your knowledge and a sense of discovery with others, we want YOU. Please contact Keven Elliff at keven at centrum dot org for more information.

Space Remaining in Explorations: Session Two

A quick update to let you know that we are still accepting applications for the second of our two Explorations middle school weeks. Our first session sold out, so this second week (March 16-21) is your last chance in 2008 to connect your middle school students with this program. For more information, visit our Explorations page, or contact Martha Worthley, at 360.385.3102 x120.

Registration Open for 2008 Workshops

Registration has opened for Centrum's 2008 workshops. Bookmark http://www.centrum.org/admin/register.html, which is our new launch page for registrations.

New in 2008, we've upgraded the software we use to handle registrations, which will give you more information, more quickly than ever before. As always, your feedback will help us improve how we serve you.

Techniques for Demo Recordings

Need to make a good demo recording? For his 2007 jazz and chamber music workshop sessions on the subject, David Christensen developed a Powerpoint presentation detailing the basic audio production concepts necessary to produce good demos. If you need to make a demo for Centrum workshops, or for any other reason, this presentation (which consists of the Powerpoint file and a sample WAV file) is highly informative.

A Taste of the Cistern Concert

If you missed last night's Cistern Dedication Concert, here is a jumpy cell-phone video with surprisingly good audio. The concert was, in fact, professionally recorded, so we'll try to have a good quality sound sample available at some point. This August 8, 2007 recording of Stuart Dempster, Kevin Karnes, David Marriott, and Brian Pertl was made at the dedication of the Dan Harpole Cistern at Fort Worden State Park.
